BitePlan ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the BitePlan mobile application.

1. Information We Collect

• Account Information: Email address and encrypted password
• Profile Data: Age, weight, height, fitness goals, activity level
• Health Information: Dietary restrictions, allergies, medical conditions
• Usage Data: App interactions, analytics, device information
• Health Data (Optional): Weight history, workouts, steps (if you connect Apple Health/Google Fit)
• Food Scan Data: Photos you submit for food analysis (processed in real-time, not stored)

2. How We Use Your Information

• Generate personalized AI meal plans tailored to your dietary needs
• Calculate your daily nutritional targets
• Ensure meal safety based on your dietary restrictions and medical conditions
• Provide shopping lists based on your meal plans
• Track your health progress over time
• Improve app features and user experience

We do NOT sell your personal data to third parties.

3. Use of Artificial Intelligence & Data Sharing

BitePlan uses third-party AI services to generate personalized meal plans and analyze food images.

Third-Party AI Service Provider:

• Service: Poe.com API (https://poe.com)
• AI Model: Anthropic Claude (https://anthropic.com)
• Purpose: Meal plan generation and food image analysis ONLY
• Privacy: Poe.com Privacy Policy

Data Sent to Poe.com/Anthropic:

• Dietary preferences (e.g., vegetarian, keto, balanced diet)
• Dietary restrictions and allergies (e.g., "no nuts", "lactose intolerant")
• Daily calorie goals
• Number of meals per day and meal timing preferences
• Language preference for meal plan generation
• Food images (for food scan feature only — processed in real-time, not stored)
• Text hints about food (for food scan feature only)

Data NOT Sent to Poe.com/Anthropic:

• Your name, email address, or phone number
• Location data or GPS coordinates
• Payment or billing information
• Device identifiers (UDID, advertising ID, IP address)
• Health data beyond dietary preferences
• Account credentials

User Consent: Before any data is sent to the AI service, the app explicitly asks for your permission via an in-app consent dialog. You can decline, and the app will not send any data to the AI service. AI features (meal plan generation and food scanning) will not function without consent.

Data Security: All data is transmitted to AI services over secure, encrypted HTTPS connections. We do not use your personal data to train AI models. AI-generated meal content may be cached to improve performance and reduce costs, but this cached data is not linked to your personal identity.

Data Retention: We do not store AI-generated responses beyond the current session. Poe.com's data handling is governed by their own privacy policy.

Data Control: You can delete your dietary preferences and all associated data at any time from the Settings screen in the app. You can also revoke AI consent by deleting your account.

4. Nutritional Sources & Citations

Our meal plans and nutritional recommendations are based on established scientific sources and guidelines:

• USDA FoodData Central - Nutritional composition data for foods and ingredients
• World Health Organization (WHO) - International dietary guidelines and recommendations
• Mifflin-St Jeor Equation - Evidence-based calorie calculation formula
• Dietary Guidelines for Americans - USDA/HHS nutrition standards
• Anthropic Claude AI - Meal plan generation using the above data sources

All nutritional targets and meal recommendations are generated using these established sources. However, individual needs vary - always consult a qualified healthcare professional before making significant dietary changes.

5. Data Security

• All data is stored securely with row-level security policies
• Passwords are hashed using bcrypt — never stored in plain text
• All data transmission uses HTTPS/TLS encryption
• API access requires authentication via JWT tokens
• You can delete your account and all associated data at any time

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access: Request a copy of your personal data
• Rectification: Correct inaccurate data
• Erasure: Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
• Portability: Receive your data in a portable format
• Withdraw Consent: Opt out of optional data collection at any time

7. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services, each processing only the minimum data necessary for its function:

• Poe.com API / Anthropic Claude: AI meal plan generation and food image analysis. Data shared: dietary preferences, calorie goals, meal count, language, food images. Privacy Policy

• RevenueCat: Subscription management. Handles in-app purchase receipts. Privacy Policy
• Resend: Email delivery (verification, password reset). Privacy Policy

8. News Content & Third-Party Articles

BitePlan's in-app news feed aggregates article headlines, summaries, and images from third-party RSS feeds published by their respective content owners. We do not reproduce full article text. All articles link directly to the original publisher's website.

Images displayed alongside articles are sourced from the publishers' own RSS feeds or public Open Graph metadata. We do not claim ownership of any third-party content.

Content Removal Requests: If you are a content owner and wish to have your content removed from our news feed, please contact us at [email protected] with the subject line "Content Removal Request". We will process removal requests within 5 business days.

9. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all personal data is permanently removed within 30 days. Anonymized, aggregated data may be retained for analytics purposes.

10. Children's Privacy

BitePlan is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or in-app notification. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
